Any pet owner that has a child needs to learn how to prepare his or her children for the new pets. You can protect your children and pets alike from injuries by training both pet and child.

The first thing you should let your kids know on the day you are bringing the pet home is that the pet – regardless of what it may be – would need some time to adjust to its new settings, and may be a bit anxious. Young children are prone to making loud noises – tell them to relax and refrain from screaming or yelling. Try not to crowd the pet – they don’t like being cornered, and to a new pet, you’re all strangers to be treated with caution.

Unless your children are of proper age, you should prohibit them from picking up or squeezing pets – make sure they know the proper procedures first. Gestures such as pinching, hair pulling, tail pulling or ear pulling should be discouraged. Once again, pets are living creatures who feel pain just like human beings, and are capable of causing pain in retaliation due to what they feel is overly aggressive behavior.

Dogs and cats are capable of a much greater range of hearing than people. Do not let your children scream or shout at your pet’s ear, because this could either cause hearing damage or cause the pet to retaliate. Also, since dogs would also react defensively when stared at face-to-face, you should discourage your children from staring at your pets face-to-face.

Don’t let your children tempt or tease pets by dangling treats in front of them. Pets can retaliate aggressively if a piece of food or toy is withheld from them, as they could get frustrated by this act of teasing.

Never, ever, let your children hit or kick a pet, no matter how big and strong the dog is. Dogs, in particular, could retaliate violently once a blow lands on a soft spot and hurts it.

Unlike human beings, pets cannot talk. You can’t expect them to say “hey, man…that hurts!” in a way you’d understand. When hurt, pets react by scratching, biting, and roaring or growling as a defense mechanism. Treat your pets like you wish to be treated, and let your children do the same.

To many pet owners, crating a dog, even for a little while, seems like a terrible punishment. But take heart. Dog don’t have the same reaction to the crate as humans.

These are like time out corners for your dog.

Just as a time out is not the right method for a small baby, the crate is not the best choice for a new puppy. The best time to crate train a dog, however, is while he’s young. It’s nice to cuddle your new puppy, but you will want to crate him for a while daily. Try crating the dog while you do some local shopping, knowing that you will return soon. Give him a chew toy to keep him comfortable. This training will teach the dog to not relieve himself in the house, as dogs tend to not defecate where they sleep. It will also protect him from putting dangerous items him his mouth. At the same time it protects your belongings from the unrepentant damage of puppy teeth.

Even after housebreaking, some dogs benefit from crating. Breeds that are known for being hyperactive, such as Jack Russell terriers, generally grow into calmer adults if they are crated for a while each day until they are a year or more old. For pets with anxiety, a crate can create a safe environment.

When implemented correctly, your dog will treat the crate as their own personal space. It can become their quiet retreat when there is too much going on in the house or when they are just plain tuckered out. Experts say not to use the crate as a punishment, but they may independently go there themselves to calm down.

Even if you have an outdoor dog, crating still can have benefits. There are still times when even the outdoor dog will need to be placed in a crate, such as a kennel, the vet’s office, at a grooming center. If he is already comfortable with spending some time in a crate, then those experiences will be less traumatic for him.

Choose a crate that is at least 6 inches longer than your dog will be when grown and tall enough to allow him to stand up and turn around comfortably. Your options will include plastic forms that can also be used as carriers for transporting your dog, soft sided cloth carrier/crates, collapsible or semi-permanent wire enclosures, and some that are designed to resemble furniture. Be sure to select one that will provide adequate ventilation and light for your pet’s comfort.

Dogs, regardless of their size, tend to have a general attitude about how they behave. If a person is mindful of this, then there shouldn’t be any problems with training, no matter the type of dog they decide to get. Read on to find out how to communicate better with a dog by using the information that provides some help.

There are different tricks you can try when you are crate training your dog. If they shy away from the crate, try placing a chew bone and shutting its gate when they are not inside. If a dog sees something in the crate that they want, they will desire to enter it. When they go inside to get the bone, give them lots of positive reinforcement.

Be sure to keep your dog active and engaged a great deal of the time. Dogs can get bored very easily. Conditions of boredom are not conducive to training. A happy and well-exercised dog is an easily trained dog. Go for a long walk with your dog.

The first step of training your pooch should be to assert your control. If the dog does not understand that you have control he will ignore your commands and act with outright disobedience. In practice, this means that you should walk ahead when walking your dog, for instance, rather than allowing him or her to take the lead.

Get your dog ready early for his trips to the veterinarian. Pet him across his entire body and praise him if he responds favorably. You will want to get him ready to tolerate the doctor touching his mouth and paws. Ask some of your family and friends to assist you with this.

Clickers can be great behavioral training tools. To use one, make a positive connection between good behavior and the noise made by the clicker. Over the course of a few days use the clicker and immediately give your dog a treat. Eventually, your dog will learn that the noise means “good,” and this will help shape their behavior by using this tool.

A variety of rewards, such as treats, praise and toys keep your dog interested in pleasing you. These treats should be easily distinguishable from the common biscuit variety you may give your dog on a regular basis as special achievements in training merit special edibles in reward.

To improve the efficiency of your training routine, make sure your dog eats and poops at around the same time every day. This allows you to know when your dog has to go and take him outside to do his business before your carpet gets ruined. This helps your puppy learn to “hold it” for a bit, until he knows it’s time to go out and will help save you money on carpet cleaning.

It is important for your dog to get used to being away from you, especially if you travel a lot. This can be instilled in your dog through training. If you dog starts barking or running wild as soon as you head for the door, separation anxiety is the likely culprit. With training, you can encourage your dog towards performing more constructive, healthy activities when he’s alone. Always make sure you shower your dog with an abundance of love and affection to comfort his anxious feelings.

Most people are surprised how quickly their dog can learn from training and how fast they get results. So if you are looking to change any of your dog’s wayward ways, try some of our tips for quick success!

It’s best to train dogs in their earlier years. Puppies are naturally kind, innocent and training them is less difficult. Basic habits like eating and walking must be introduced properly as part of their strict training before you go to more difficult orders. Less difficult tasks may be introduced as you take them out for a walk.

Some people think that training puppies is harsh. Still, as the puppy’s parent you should make certain that your puppy is civilized especially with guests around. Without some rules set for your puppy, it is likely to become shy and unhappy. Puppies need not be trained to be quick, agile, or tough in the early years because what they need for the moment is the foundation to learn fundamental instructions. You are capable of teaching your dog to protect itself in the future as well. Dogs are confident to stay with their owners when they are trained to do tasks. It’s not hard for dogs to take heed to their owner’s commands and thus they are free from serious harm.

Always set reward schemes especially when your dog have done your instructions properly. At first you may reward your dog with food and later on settle with verbal praises. Your dog will work hard to give pleasure to you if you make consistent rewards for it. Thus, training dogs becomes easy.

You can aid in guiding your dog to become obedient and companionable if you enroll yourself to puppy training classes and be acquainted with the basics in dog training. You can witness how your dog connects with other dogs and to people as well around it by observing its coping manners. You are not guaranteed of knowledge and expertise just by attending puppy training classes.

Don’t think your job is done once you’ve completed your puppy training classes. All the serious works starts when you get back home. All that serious work is effective when you it day by day.

If you’re reading this, you’re a dog owner, and if you scroll down, then you are most likely interested in hiring a professional dog trainer. But you might be interested in a professional dog trainer if you’re dealing with a difficult pet dog. Don’t get us wrong – dogs are man’s best friend, but they have bad habits that can sometimes be gross even to merely think about. Which means you just might need a pro to train your dog properly. People hire professionals to do this on a daily basis. There’s always somebody somewhere in the world in search for a dog trainer. After all, dogs just can’t help but be that way, even if they can be annoying at times.

A professional dog trainer will break your loving pet of those bad habits. And even if these habits are as gross as they often seem to be, hiring a professional trainer can help you and your dog coexist in harmony like you should. You shall be dealing with professionals, so therefore you should expect only the best training for your pet.

Once you have located your professional trainer, be honest with him and let him know all about the naughty acts that your dog performs. Keep your lines of communication open and honest so the trainer could work on each individual fault and make you and your pet happy campers.

Finding a professional dog trainer is very simple. For sure you and your dog take an occasional trip to the dog park. Next time you go there, chat up some dog owners if you notice their dogs behaving well. Use your information gathering skills by asking the right questions, especially those with regards to the trainer.

You will feel better after knowing that the well-behaved dog in the park had bad habits also at one time. Rest assured that your dog’s habits will be broken as well, and before you know it, dog owners will be asking you who your trainer was.

When choosing a professional dog trainer, you may sometimes encounter some difficulty. You may want to consider more than just one specific trainer. Maybe even let them meet your dog, and see how he reacts to each trainer. After all, you will want to get a trainer your dog will be comfortable with, because they will be spending a lot of time together.

Looking a reliable plumber in Sydney – we have the most dependable plumbers around.

When you are puppy training biting is one of the first things that you will want to control. This could be a dangerous behavior as your dog grows because it may turn aggressive, so you need to train your puppy to stop biting. Your dog may end up getting into fights with other dogs and become dangerous to children.

It’s tempting to laugh and pet the puppy when they nip and consider it as cute behavior. Doing this reinforces the behavior because you’re giving them attention and love which is like rewarding them when they bite you. Because this is the opposite of what you want to do, when the puppy bites you in his or her play, it’s important to stop yourself from acting happy.

Everyone who is close to the puppy should be involved with the techniques of puppy training biting. Your puppy will not learn, or certainly will learn much slower, if he is receiving different messages from different people in the family. When the puppy bites any family member, everybody, including the kids, needs to understand that they should stop playing with the puppy. Make sure everyone stops giving the puppy attention at that moment.

When the puppy bites, punishing him will be pointless. When puppies play with each other, a little nipping is natural so this will continue when the puppy plays with you or your kids. Your young dog will have trouble understanding that he has done anything wrong.

More can be done when establishing good puppy training biting techniques even though stopping playing with your puppy is the most important rule.

Puppies will yelp any time they’re bitten too hard when they’re playing together. This stops the other puppy biting them. When your puppy nips your foot or hand, yelp just as his siblings would have yelped. When you do this, try sounding as much like a puppy as you can.

When you do that, your puppy will probably let go so you can move away. You need to immediately stop playing with him. Do not give him any more attention by talking or looking at him, either. Something completely different that doesn’t involve your puppy at all is what you should do. He’ll then learn that you don’t like being bitten and he better not bite you if he wants attention and play.

It’s not necessary to stay away from him very long. Because the attention span of puppies are short, everything is immediate for him. Right away, the consequences of his behavior should happen and if you want, you can go back to him after a few minutes.

Of course it is important to reward the good behavior too. Many people correct them when they do something wrong but when they do something right, they forget to reward them. It’s like we take it for granted when they behave well. Dogs can, however, learn from punishment just as much as from a reward.

If your dog hasn’t bitten you when you’re playing with him, give him a reward for that. This form of puppy training biting that involves rewards as well as walking away will be the most successful.

Crate train dog training techniques can be an excellent way to raise your dog. Many people use crates to help the dog and the family get used to living together and to establish ground rules for behavior inside the house.

You’ll be able to use the crates for other stuff aside from potty training. There are actually many misconceptions about crate training. They often see it as a cage instead of the dog’s own special den. You can crate train dog and puppy very successfully by following these 5 easy tips.

Crate train dog for learning not punishment

It’s a common misconception that dogs are punished when they are placed in a crate. It’s actually not for that purpose at all. A crate is actually a place for a dog to take a break and rest. You should not send your dog to his crate angrily. You should lead him there in a cheerful way and not leave him there right away.

The crate is like the dog’s own room

Be sure to make the crate homey. Pillows, blankets, and toys will be good additions for a crate. What you should not include within the crate is food. You want the dog to connect the crate with rest and not mealtime.

Be consistent

If you have decided to crate train dog by giving him crate time when he becomes over excited and starts jumping on people, be sure to do it every time that he jumps. Your dog should not be allowed to jump on some people and disallowed for the rest. Many people let their dogs jump on family members but disallow it for guests. The changing rules can’t be comprehended by a dog.

Do not shut the dog in the crate when you leave the house

This is another mistake that many people make – they put the dog in the crate any time that they go to work, go shopping, or whatever. Dogs won’t be happy being alone when you go out. If you put them in a crate at that time, they will associate being in the crate with being unhappy. This will make your dong not want to go inside his crate because that would mean he’ll be left alone. You have to maintain the happy feeling of the crate to be able to train your dog well.

Use planned crate time

If you want your dog to dissociate the crate with punishment, have scheduled crate time daily. That is just similar to letting your child nap for a time. While your dog might not sleep, he should at least be calm and quiet. Make this the same time every day, perhaps after a walk.

Using the crate well will enable you to train your dog better. With crate training, everyone in the family and your dog will be happy.

‘I need help house training my puppy’ is a familiar cry that anybody who trains dogs hears all of the time. In fact, it is probably the most common dog training issue. A new owner wants a house trained puppy even if a dog owner might not care so much if a dog comes when it’s called.

There are certain principles that it is important to follow if the puppy is going to be potty trained quickly and easily, with minimum upset to the dog and minimum mess in the house. Below are the 3 rules you can follow in order to house train your puppy.

Be loving and patient

As puppies start to learn their way around the world, they need lots of love and patience. When a puppy first comes into your home it is likely to be a traumatic time for him, even if you are very affectionate with him.

Don’t forget he’s been taken away from his mother and siblings and placed into the care of people he never met. He also had a long car journey which is new to him as well. His food may be new and unfamiliar. Your house may be colder, warmer, noisier, quieter or smell different than he is used to.

He’s likely to suffer from a little stress when he first arrives. Like humans, dogs tend to suffer from digestive disorders when stressed. Keep this in mind and be very patient with him through the training.

Setting a schedule

House training your puppy in the fastest way means setting a firm schedule. When it comes to feeding time, it needs to be consistent from day to day. You will need to feed in the morning and evening at the same times every day and then give the puppy a chance to go potty outside afterward.

This won’t be easy if you don’t have a regular schedule such as getting later on weekends. But while your puppy is being house trained, this is very important. Psychological and physical boundaries and schedule are what your dog needs. If you want your puppy to be house trained faster, then make sure his digestive system has a schedule to follow.

Punishment is not the answer

Being angry or punishing your puppy because it had a potty accident in the house is pointless. Your puppy will only be scared and confused if they’re punished for something as natural as going potty.

Reminding your dog in a loving way that the place for potty is outside is what you can do instead. It will reward the unwanted behavior if you take him outside right after the accident. After he eats, take him out and when he does his business outside those times, then be pleased with him.

In order for him to be happy going potty outside, you need to make going outside fun and happy.

When you’re searching for cold spring mn real estate, get the help you need including relocation, moving and financing options.

You would need to understand your dog, make it pay attention and train it consistently in order to achieve the best training results.

You would need to understand your dog, make it pay attention and train it consistently in order to achieve the best training results.

You as the owner/trainer would need to be consistent to train your dog properly. Set a list of ground rules for your pet dog. Reinforce this by giving your dog a treat should he or she follow the rules, and punishing him or her for breaking the rules – it is important to make sure the rules are all followed. Dogs traditionally respect consistent leaders. Dog training can be made easier if you are a person that the dog can follow and show respect to.

Next, your dog needs to consistently focus on you as the trainer without minding other distractions. Dogs may respect consistent leaders, but what good is it if they don’t understand simple instructions? By following these examples, your dog can be on its way to being a more attentive and more obedient “student”. Shout out the word “Watch” as your dog looks at you after you call him or her over by name. By doing this, you are reinforcing your dog’s attention as you aim for him or her to associate the word “Watch” to looking at you. A dog’s attention span can be improved, but first, drill him or her on the “Watch” technique – with success. Treats are for dogs and not owners, but you may want to pretend to eat one, then give the “Watch” command to your dog afterwards. After you stay at the same place for a few seconds, give your dog some much-needed praise. Your dog’s focus should slowly improve, so continue doing this technique till your dog can pay attention for one minute. It’s not that hard to develop a good attention span in your pet dog.

Effective dog obedience training can truly be achieved if you know how your dog thinks. A dog’s focus is usually limited to a short period of time. The average dog can only pay attention for about ten to twenty minutes, before demanding a break in training due to a lack of focus. To go around this obstacle, you can schedule dog obedience training sessions at around twenty to thirty minutes a day. If you wish to further extend your dog’s commitment to training, make training fun. Look for ways that could encourage your dog to like training instead of complaining and whining. This can be done by openly showing your appreciation for its efforts. Be empathic when showing praise for a job well done, and always have enough treats to reward your dog. A happy dog is always expected to train better than an unhappy one.

Once you have mastered the tips we have given you in this article, you should be ready to move on to more complex techniques for your training sessions. Once you’ve mastered everything there is to know about obedience training (including all of this article), you should have the rewarding feeling of being a good owner and a good obedience trainer to your dog.

Getting frustrated with your dog? Is she treating your house like one big chew toy, or having a hard time mastering house training? Is she jumping up on you when you’d rather she didn’t? Great news – most canine behavior problems can be easily lessened or eliminated outright by some basic dog training. Just check some of these tips out!

Have the right equipment and use it properly. Learn how to put on a chain or nylon slip collar and use a standard 6 foot leash for most training. Do not yank or pull on the leash. Just give a quick tug and release when the dog ignores a command to come or heel. Soon just wearing the collar will be enough to remind the dog that you are the one in charge of the training session, and very few corrections should be needed.

Remember that you must respect your dog’s boundaries. The fact is that you cannot change a dog from being a dog. Your dog does not speak English, and you cannot rationalize his behavior with him. Some dogs will have issues so severe that you can only minimize the impact of the issue on their lives. Consult with a trainer about your dog’s specific limitations, and what you can reasonably expect.

It is important to understand that training your dog will require a lot of patience and repetition. It often takes a dog between 25 and 50 repetitions before they are able to learn a new command. Getting frustrated will only delay your results and may hurt your relationship with your pet.

Calling your dog over to you then punishing him will teach him to fear you. Telling him he was bad or did wrong from a few feet away will definitely get your point across and the dog will understand your meaning without feeling threatened by you. Keep in mind the dog wants your approval and that alone will motivate him to do well.

Remember that your dog training is going on 24 hours a day. Do not make the mistake of thinking that you are only training your dog during your obedience classes and practice sessions. Your dog is watching and learning from you during every interaction you have with it, so be sure you are always reinforcing good behavior.

To teach your dog to lie down, have him start in a sit position. Take a treat, and place your hand on the ground. Slowly drag it away from your dog. Your dog should initially lower his nose to the ground, and then lie down as he tries to follow the treat further away. If he stands up instead of lying down, have him restart from the sit position. Make sure to praise him once he lies down.

Your command should be the final command, and your pup has to learn. However, that doesn’t mean he is going to take the training and get it, immediately. You need to know the special tricks and get some good advice. The tips of this article can serve as a great point to start from, so that your dog training can go the way you want it to.
