The Ideal Kind Of Puppy Discipline

Generally, breeding puppies can be a very rewarding yet frustrating experience, especially when it misbehaves and starting chewing up your new $2000 couch. You might have smacked your puppy when it misbehaved in some way, and if you have been doing so, you should stop now.

This kind of punishment is bad and it has proven to have a lesser effect when compared with showing a pet lots of love and affection.

Infant dogs just don\’t know how to respond or what to do when you hit them, even casually. It doesn\’t know what you want and when you do this, you are not only hurting your little puppy but also training it to fear you. This is not the effect you want I\’m sure.

Similar to children, puppies just do not know what you mean when you whip or hit your dog. Even though it might be doing something that you\’re unhappy with, it doesn\’t know that. What it knows however, is to associate pain and terror when it sees you coming its way.

Owners who smack their puppies constantly end up with adult dogs who are rebellious and unfriendly. Not only that but the dogs tend to not trust their masters either, keeping their distance whenever possible. This is not the kind of relationship you want to start off with.

Yelling at it is the next thing you should avoid doing as well. While yelling doesn\’t inflict pain, it does instill fear (if you shout loud enough) which is scary enough for a baby dog.

Besides being vocally loud, a more effective training method you should employ would be to speak to your dog in a very firm tone to get it to cease doing what it was doing. Then pick up your pup and give it a huge to give it reassurance and some love.

Teaching your puppy should be no different from teaching a child. Control your frustrations and never shout, instead be gentle and give it time to learn the difference between right and wrong. This is the only way to develop a proper relationship with your dog

Animal communication can be a great benefit to all pet owners. The ability to understand your animals feelings and perspective on life will help you create well balanced and happy animals. It can be very easy to observe our animals behaviour and to place our own judgements on why they behave the way they do, but what happens if you are wrong? Animal communication is a way of truly understanding and getting closer to your animal.

Often we can completely miss-judge situation regarding our animals’ behaviour. It is very easy for us people to see a situation and then jump to our own negative conclusions. I am sure that you will agree that there is nothing more hurt full and unfair than someone making judgements about you that are not true!

One of my clients had labelled her dog a bully with other dogs. This had been instigated by the owners observations that when her dog was around other younger or gentle dogs, she was snapping and showing signs of aggression towards them.

Her behaviour was completely different to nervous or protective dogs where she would leave them well alone.

With animal communication we soon discovered that she was not a bull at all. Far from it her problem was that she was afraid of intimacy! She was also very good at reading other dogs character and this is why she did not want anything to do with the nervous or protective dogs. She was actually desperate to make friends with other dogs and this was why she was choosing the younger and gentle dogs.

Her need and want to be close to other dog, changed suddenly when she got too close. So rather than being friendly she became intensely shy and protective.

This new information was so different to what the owner thought was happening with her dogs social skills. That it allowed us to have a completely new approach, focused on helping her to overcome her shyness. Her dog was so keen to make friends that it made the process very effective when everyone was coming from the same perspective.

When we communicate clearly with our animals it gives a greater understanding. This is turn gives us the power to really help them. If you find your self repeatedly asking the question why do they do this or that? Then there is a high possibility that you are not understanding where they are really coming from.

Animal communication builds a trusting relationship. It is exactly the same for humans, when we find someone who understands us then it is easy to listen to them and trust them, as we can feel that they are there to help us. Because animal communication is so natural, it is very easy for anyone to learn the skills in a relatively short period of time!

Teaching Fido Tricks

Author: Geraldine Dimarco
28.11.2009

Most animal lovers can attest to a dog’s happy and faithful nature that people just love. Despite this, many are reluctant in keeping a dog because training them is hard work. The good news is it doesn’t have to be. Here are some easy tips that will help you have that fun and rewarding pet-owner relationship you’ve always wanted.

First of all, you will have to set your leader status in the dog’s eyes. Once he recognizes you as his authority he will follow you without much trouble. Establish this daily with regular routine that mirrors the animal world’s system. Allow your dog to watch you eat first and feed him only after you’re done. Don’t walk around him if he is obstructing your path. Gently force him to leave his position by pushing him out of the way. As he acknowledges you to be the leader of the pack, the easier it is to teach him in the future.

Dogs are sensitive to their handler’s emotions so you cannot show timidity or fear. Your voice should be firm and strong voice in delivering doggie commands. However, remember that dogs are especially receptive to positive reinforcement. Hand him treats each time he does something right. Be lavish in your praises to him. If he misses an order, correct him then and there, not after. Training sessions should go for ten to fifteen minutes, done a few times a day.

You will notice that dogs have similar behavioral patterns indicative of their mood. When happy they wag their tails, have an open look and bark a happy sound. Angry dogs bare their teeth, growl and tense up. Understanding your dogs mood will allow you to gauge him better, subsequently giving you response time to be able to train him more effectively.

Be patient in teaching your dogs new tricks. Ideally you start as early as six weeks but even older dogs can still learn. You will encounter some difficulty at first but remain calm and patient. Consistency will win out and he will learn sooner or later. Do not change your training patterns or schedule. Dogs get confused easily and you might lose ground if that happens.

When teaching your dogs tricks, do so in an area you will least likely be interrupted. A more interesting object may be a better source of entertainment for him than the present training session. You will be hard-pressed to keep his attention when that happens. A backyard free from commotions, or any quiet fenced-in area will be a good classroom for him.

Most importantly, remember why you got your pet in the first place. Have fun! Training can be tedious and when that happens, just take a break to play and have a romp around the backyard with him. Dogs are special because they have a special ability to take your mind off pressing details and lavish you with love however bad you look or smell. The best dogs are not only those that are trained but those that make for a faithful and constant friend.

Shih Tzu Training Reviewed

Author: Rachel Simon
20.06.2009

During your meals, you need to train your Shih Tzu dog to sit and stay in a specific area when the family is eating. This may take some time but eventually they will remain in a sit position until after your dinner is over and then of course you should praise their actions by offering them up a nice hot meal that they can eat in their own food bowl, but only after everybody else is finished eating.

Shih Tzu dogs are highly intelligent creatures and many pet owners do not give them enough credit when it comes to the way they can read and understand our body language. Some people have no idea that the body language that we display has a major impact on how well a Shih Tzu dog will listen to us and obey our commands. Using the correct form of body language can also quickly stop your Shih Tzu dog from displaying an improper behavior.

When youre angry at your puppy or adult Shih Tzu dog, do not chase them around the house. You may be upset with them, but to your puppy, he or she thinks youre playing a game and they will run around forever.

When it comes time to give commands to your shih tzu take note of your posture. You should stand almost like a marine with your chest out and head back. Also, speak in a firm voice. This will let your shih tzu know that you mean business and the shih tzu will have more respect and also be slightly intimidated. This will help in the training process.

If you shih tzu gets excited easily then you must react in the opposite fashion. Use slow hand gestures and talk in a low voice. This will create a calming affect and you will notice your dog’s behavior changing as a direct reaction of you.

Here is a great retrieval training tip: get some snacks together and sprinkle them on the floor a few feet away from your shih tzu. Do not let them run up and grab them right away. Make the shih tzu wait a minute or so in a seated position and when you are ready give the command “pickup” and allow your dog to eat.

This type of training works best when your shih tzu puppy is hungry. Every time you place food in front of them repeat the “pickup” command until they associate it with putting food in their mouth. Then you can start working with a tennis ball or whatever else you would like.

When your shih tzu is less than one year old make sure you confine them to one room in your living quarters. You might even want to use some child safety equipment until you are comfortable that they will not get into any trouble while you are away.
