As a dog owner with little dogs I’ve been dressing in the latest chihuahua clothes for years now, I’ve seen a great deal of tiny chihuahuas wearing clothes. I’m noticing, today, that chihuahua dogs are wearing pet clothes more than any other type of doggie. I do spot poodles and yorkies and shih tzus wearing dog clothing, but not in the amount that I see chihuahuas wearing them in. Not even close.

Perhaps it’s because chihuahuas are purchased by more dog owners who have more of a cosmetic intent with their dogs. A lot of chihuahua lovers do enjoy dressing their chihuahuas in new chihuahua clothes and parade them around town. There are definitely a lot of chihuahua owners who love doing this!

Or maybe this chihuahua fashion trend I’m noticing is due to the chihuahua dogs themselves: perhaps it’s because so many chihuahuas are both small and have short hair that make them the ideal small dog fashion candidates. Or maybe it’s because they’re so darn cute and when you pair them with chihuahua outfits, they look so amazingly adorable and lovable.

It’s not easy to say why, exactly, way more chihuahuas are wearing clothes than any other type of dog. What’s more easy to understand is why these chihuahua outfits have become so popular: they can take even the most down in the dumps chihuahua rescue, cheer him up, and make him look a chihuahua fashion champ that is much more likely to be adopted. And if you have chihuahuas you’re lucky enough to live with, then dressing them in a flashy designer puppy collars can really give your little dog that glamorous dog look.

Now again, there are many different breeds of small dogs out there being dressed in clothes today. There’s Maltese dogs wearing costumes and yorkies sporting dresses. But none of these other dog breeds are even getting close to touching the diva dog angle that chihuahuas are working right now. Chihuahua owners are checking out the Chihuahua Shop each day to catch the latest chihuahua fashion trends and to pick up the latest and greatest chihuahua accessories and puppy collars for their chihuahua puppies. Do I know precisely why this is going on?–nope. But I will tell you this: chihuahuas have become the fashionistas for the toy dog pet world!

When training a dog, it is important to begin as early as possible in the dog’s life. There are many different methods used when dog training and they all work differently depending on the dog. Obedience schools are available for those who do not wish to attempt this on their own. For those that do want to try dog training, here are a few quick tips that may help.

A reward system is widely recognized as one of the most effective ways to train a dog into good behavior. By using positive reinforcement, such as verbal rewards along the lines of “good dog” or the much more effective method of the dog treat, proven results have been achieved. The treat as a reward in the early stages will guarantee continued good behavior later on.

At the other end of the spectrum is negative reinforcement. Negative reinforcement can come in the form of a tap on the butt or the obligatory “bad dog,” spoken aloud. A more extreme form of negative reinforcement used to curb bad behavior can come by way of the utilization of a shock collar.

Incessant barking can be a major issue for some pet owners and may be eliminated with a particular method of dog training. By using what is known as a “bark collar” this issue may be eliminated over time. These collars emit a low-voltage electrical shock each time the dog barks and over the course of the dog wearing the collar, barking will eventually stop.

There is another form of negative reinforcement that utilizes the same basic principle as the bark collar. A shock collar used in conjunction with an invisible fence is used to contain the dog in a particular area such as a yard or piece of property. The dog receives a mild shock each time she attempts to cross the boundary line which in turn lets her know the limitations.

Housebreaking a dog is possibly the most important piece of dog training. Utilizing a bit of both reinforcement methods with the negative reinforcement being kept to a minimum will accomplish this. Reward the dog when he has alerted you to the need to go outside or discipline him when an accident indoors occurs. One should not shout the dog’s name by itself when disciplining the dog as the dog will not know the difference between discipline and a simple call.

Training a dog is by no means easy but is well worth the time and effort as a dog can serve as a companion, guardian, or helper. Exercising patience during the dog training assures great results and helps build trust between owner and dog. A well-trained dog is an untiring pleasure that everyone can enjoy.

Health insurance is expensive but not having it is even more costly. This stands true not only for people but also for family pets in that the majority of pet owners would want to provide the best possible care for their pet, should they become ill or injured. Dog insurance can mean the difference between more time with a pet and having to make a difficult decision of putting them down.

A comprehensive dog insurance policy will help to care for them in the event of sickness or a sudden accident. The insurance may cover simple routine trips to the vet or in a worst-case scenario, the resetting of a broken limb and the subsequent rehabilitation that may come with it. Dog insurance is most beneficial for those unplanned for emergency situations.

Along with the initial veterinary office visit, any consequent treatment will also be covered. Depending on the extent of the illness or injury, the dog may require surgery. There is also a distinct possibility that some type of medication will be necessary to aid in their recovery.

Having insurance in place is not only good for the emergency situations but also for routine pet maintenance. The majority of dog insurance policies available will cover routine visits to the veterinarian. This will also help in prescription costs for any medications that may be recommended during these routine visits.

The majority of insurance providers will also include clauses for voluntary surgery. The neutering or spaying of a pet, while being voluntary, is considered to be a necessity and many insurance companies understand this. The odds are that the one-time decision for the surgery and the subsequent money that is saved through the insurance, will likely cover the cost of the policy.

When a family brings home a dog, it will usually quickly be considered a member of the family. If the family can afford it, wouldn’t it make sense to provide the dog with the same insurance and potential for care as any other family member? It certainly seems like the right thing to do. Besides, once a family is attached to a dog, it can be pretty hard to say no to a life saving surgery, one that will now be covered by insurance.

Purchasing a dog insurance policy is one of the most caring actions a dedicated pet owner may undertake. This shows the pet owner’s dedication to providing a long and healthy lifetime with the family. Every pet has the right to proper care and it is the owner’s responsibility to provide this.

There is no need to go into a tizzy when trying to choose the right dog food for a pet. While there are quite a few varieties available, there are ways to sort through them. By doing some research on a specific breed of a dog and the dog food that is available, it will be much easier to match one with the other.

The first basic difference in dog food is in between puppies and adult dogs. Many pet food manufacturers create food that is designed for a puppy’s specific needs. Puppies in particular will be slightly difficult at the outset in finding a food they like, so there may be some trial-and-error involved.

Adult dogs will have a much wider range of foods available for selection. The dog food for adult dogs needs to contain the proper nutrition specifically designed for active dogs of their age. These should include any dietary supplements along with the proper vitamins and minerals to maintain good health.

Many types of food for dogs are specialized to fulfill a specific dog need. For example, some food is designed for smaller dogs, while other foods may be designed for bigger dogs. There are also formulas that are specific to active and obese dogs along with special foods designed to help give dogs a sleek shining coat.

An obese dog will want to limit his or her calorie intake. Many companies make special food specifically designed for obese dogs. Dog obesity is rarely a direct result of normal dog foods and instead normally stems from excessive consumption of table scraps and scavenging.

Older dogs will benefit from foods designed specifically for senior dogs. Because older dogs are less active, they need fewer calories. Feeding an old dog regular food can lead to an overweight dog. Also, older dogs need more vitamins and health supplements.

A little bit of research can go a long way in choosing the proper food for that special pet. By becoming informed as to what it is one’s dog specifically needs, the choice becomes much easier to make. The dog food aisle at the local pet store or grocery warehouse will no longer be one to be feared.
