I have been crate training my puppy since she was 7 weeks old- she is now 3 1/2 months. She does alright in the crate, but she wakes up at 5 am and will whine until 7 (I refuse to get up with her before 7). I let her out about every 5 hours at night to go out to the bathroom. When she starts to whine is when I put her back in her crate after letting her out at 5am go to outside, and I’m sure it’s because she’s hungry. However, I will not feed her until at least 7. I feed her at 7pm, so shouldn’t she be fine? I’m feeding her the correct amount and giving her food puzzles between meals. How can I correct the whining in the crate without making it a bad place to be? I was thinking spraying her with a water bottle, but I feel that this would make the crate a negative environment. Does anyone have any suggestions? I can’t handle the whining every morning like this.
Also, I put a bone and toys in there with her.
Also, like I said, the whining starts after I let her out at 5 and put her back in her crate.
I’m getting some good advice, but I’m wondering if I didn’t make my question clear enough for some of you. I let her out at 5 am and when I put her back in the crate, shes starts whining, and I believe it’s because she’s hungry, because when I let her out at 7 to feed her, she immediately goes back to sleep after eating. So I’m not making my dog stay in the kennel when she has to go outside. I just won’t get up at 5 to feed her because I want to show her that I am dominent and I decide when she eats, not her. So thanks for eveyone on the right track!
read users comments (10)I want to crate train my puppy so I can get him to not eliminate in the house. I know I need to crate him while I am at work, or if I leave the house, but shoud he go in the crate at night time? He has been waking me up at night when he as to go… is this a good sign, or should I still crate him?
What should I do about food and water, I read that he should only be fed 4 times daily, and after 6 months, 3 times.
Also how often should he go outside… 3-4 times daily?
He is a 10 week old, Papillon. Please help.. any advice on how to begin and follow through with this training would be a huge help.
We have had our new puppy less than 24hrs. I was worried about overnight accidents. I have read to put them in a crate w/ their bed but what if he wets it? He is in a 5′ x 3′ space blocked by child gate w/ bed, toys at one end & newspaper at another at night. Which is better until potty/crate trained?
I have a six month old puppy who at times uses her crate as the toilet. I thought I had it solved when I took the bedding out, but I didnt. She can hold it for hours when shes just roaming the house. But I can leave her locked up for two and come home to a big puddle and a smelly dog. I have tried a million things and just when I think I’ve got it figured out she does it again.
I need help!
www.easy-dog-obedience-training.com When you get a puppy, you might not think immediately about dog training, but you really should. Having a well trained dog can mean the difference between a settled household and a nightmare. Dog behavior is directly impacted by how much training he has. He needs to have structure and limits in his life. If you don’t provide this, he will, and that can create significant behavior problems in your dog.
