Although commercial cat food companies will use such terms as; super premium, premium, natural and quality, there are no legal or scientific definitions for those terms. When it comes to cat foods, the source of the ingredients (animal or plant) really does matter.

Have you attempted several ways to get your cat to lose weight but none have worked?

It is a foregone conclusion that you are feeding your cat too much and you’re feeding him/her the wrong type of food. You are probably feeding your cat too many snacks coupled with little or no exercise. Why do you think that cats need snacks? Perhaps you are confusing what humans eat with what cats should eat. Just like some humans eat too many carbohydrate loaded snacks and become obese, the same thing happens to cats every day. Obesity spells danger for humans as well as cats. For the life of your cat, it’s imperative that you change your cat’s diet right away to avoid serious and costly illnesses.

You should change your cat’s diet to a species-appropriate diet

We should be practicle regarding what’s good for our cats by considering their origin and their natural diet. Did you know that our domestic cats are descendents of the wild cats that roam the African deserts? They are well suited to thrive in a desert environment and they should eat what their predessors eat.

A desert is a dry environment yeilding very little water. Since that is the origin of our domestic cats, Mother Nature designed a cat’s body to be efficient in digesting meat with a low-thrist drive. Rarely will a cat eat plant food and when he does, it comes from the stomach of his/her prey.

A cat’s digestive system was designed by Mother Nature to efficiently digest meat, bones and most bacteria. A digestive system is acidic and short and is perfect for digseting a cat’s natural diet. Fruits, vegetables and other plant foods are not part of a cat’s evolutionary process and should not be fed to them.

In the desert, it’s a common occurance to see cats eating prey that’s infested with flies and other parasites.

The organ meats, of their prey, provide moisture. Their prey’s stomach content, provide seeds, wild grasses, berries and various nuts. Their prey’s bones serve as tooth brushes for cats.

Cats prolonged eating of dry foods can cause premature deaths. Dry foods will absorb moisture and since cats have a low thrist drive to begin with, dehydration, a weakened immune system, urinary track problems and diabetes will occur and death will follow.

Why would commercial cat food companies produce such non-beneficial cat foods?

Grains are less expensive than meat and to the dry foods, they add harmful preservatives. This is deadly for cats but high profits for the commercial cat food companies.

In spite of the claims commercial cat food companies make with respect to their food being wholesome, nutritious, all natural and well-balanced, their claims cannot be supported by science or common sense.

What should your cat be fed?

Your cat should eat a diet that’s close to their predecessor’s diet. A raw meat diet is best. If any of the first five ingredients listed on the label is a carbohydrate, never purchase the food or feed it to your cat.

When purchasing food for your cat, always be mindful that cats are not humans. Our dietary requirements are different from cats. Return the love your cat has shown you and your family by feeding him/her food that is beneficial to them and enhance their longevity. By doing that, you will has greatly reduced the chance of your cat dying a premature death.

Many pet care-givers are convinced that Veterinarians are highly trained to dispense nutritional advice. Their beliefs are so strong that they never second guess it. Cats owners opinion of Vets is so engrained that they never even think that this belief could be wrong.

When we see commercial pet food ads on TV or read their ads in print, we have no reason to doubt their claims. So we, the trusting public, is so convinced by their ads we put the nutritional needs of our pets in their hands.

For the most part, we are trusting people and therefore we have no reason to doubt their claims. When the commercial pet food companies put a high price on their food, we are totally convinced that their product is good

That’s what we’ve been told now let me tell you the truth

Up and coming Veterinarians, while in Vet schools, are bombarded with commercial pet food companys’ propergander. The little nutritional training they do receive is done so by people with a vested interest in the pet food companies. They are buying Veterinarians’ loyalty and this loyalty usually last throughout the Vet’s career.

Barring any independent research by the Veterinarian, this bought loyalty will continue throughout the Veterinarian’s career

Our domestic cats’ diet should closely resemble the diets of the wild cats that roam the African and asian continents. Commercial pet food companies make these unproveable claims that their foods are nutritional, wholesome, 100% natural and complete. The truth is that their foods violate the fact that cats are carnivores and should never eat stuff they call food.

Cats are obligate carnivores. Their physiology is not designed to digest most of the ingredients that most pet food companies put in their foods. The grains and other carbohydrates will cause illnesses in cats. They should be avoided.

Then there are the preservatives both artificial and natural. Ethoxyquin, butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) are artificial preservatives and all have been linked to cancer and other health-related problems. Although the Food and Drug Administration has received numerous complaints from consumers that fed their pets food containing these preservatives, the FDA has refused to act.

Many Veterinarians lack the necessary training to offer nutritional advice for our pets. Their allegiances are to the pet food industry and making money, not our pets.

Many Vets are in direct violation of the oath and creed they’re sworn to uphold – “First do no harm.” They sell, in their offices, foods that are harmful to your pet.

Love your cat(s) enough to take the time to learn what foods are good for them. Don’t leave this chore to strangers – you need to be the one that learns what’s good for you pet and feed them those foods.
