When you first get a Great Dane, you should think about how you’re going to go about your Great Dane training. Great Dane training is important, especially if you have small kids in the house. While Great Danes aren’t known for being particularly vicious, they often think that they are smaller than they really are.
A full grown Great Dane can look like a horse walking through your living room and when a Dane without Great Dane training jumps on you, it can knock you down. When a Great Dane jumps on a little kid, it can unwillingly cause injury or worse. That’s just one example of why a Dane needs Great Dane training. Its not for the faint of heart but its necessary for preparing your new friend for its new home.
Jumping
Although Great Danes are really great with people, a Great Danes way of greeting people is by jumping on them. This is not usually the case when a Great Dane is still a pup, but when they’re full grown and still thinks that they’re still pup sized, this can be a huge problem.
You may want to set up your Dane by teaching it to stay down first during the first few lessons of Great Dane training. You can reward your dog with treats if it does not jump on you most particularly when you first walk in your door.
If your dog gets down after telling it to, give your dog a treat. As long as you stay consistent and so long as your dog understands whatever it is that you want during Great Dane training lessons, teaching it to stay down and not jump on you or anyone else will be easy.
Potty Training
The best way to potty train your Great Dane is by looking for warning signs. This is one of the important things in Great Dane training especially if you want your dog to be an inside dog. Being an inside dog would mean that he will need to go outside whenever it needs to potty.
Once you start seeing your dog about to squat or sniffing around, take him outside in an instant. And when your dog finishes its business outside the house, praise him or reward him with a treat. Again, being consistent will make your dog know the reasons as to why its being praised and being rewarded.
Great Dane training is not at all hard, just remember to do it when the dog is still small and easy to manipulate. When the dog gets older and starts looking like a horse in your home, you may have a difficult time implementing Great Dane training.
