Most people have different interests, mainly for relaxation or just for good old fashioned fun. One wonderful hobby is keeping a small aquarium. Most people think that fish have short life span. This is not true, did you know that most fish (depending on its species) has life span of 3-7 years, sometimes longer? It is a fact that some golfish have lived for up to 20 years!
Most people like to begin small, when learning a new hobby.
Here are a few basic tips to keeping your fish healthy and your aquarium vibrant with life.
A nano/micro fish tank aquarium must have a proper stand to keep it standing fast. A tank full of water is heavy, so do not place it on random pieces of furniture, you never know how long it will hold for. If a hobby’s worth doing, do it properly.
Lighting is a vital part for plant growth in an aquarium. You cant put too much or too little light. Too much creates more algae, too little on the other hand, hinders the growth of plants, which are necessary for your aquarium fish to survive. Fluorescent lights are whats best and practical to use. Fluorescent tubes are available in the market to fit small tank aquariums, this artificial lighting has been proven to be energy efficient and can provide just the right amount of light fish need.
Fish tank aquariums should be maintained regularly with fresh water. Tap water, must be dechlorinated. Either artificially or by letting it sit for a few days in a container, letting it aerate. A 10-20 percent partial change weekly is usually sufficient.
Avoid overpopulating, this makes the water difficult to maintain, especially for small tanks. Just keep a small, balanced community. Majority of this community should be schools of fish of same species, this creates a visual harmony. Keep a minority of fish in the cleaning department. For small fish tank aquariums, choose algae eaters that do not grow too large.
Having a daily routine where you check your tank is essential. Watch for signs of bad health, such as drifting, gasping or lurking. Read the manufacturers instructions when changing your media filter. If your media filter is not taken care of properly, it can begin to flush toxins back into your aquarium. This is something you should never let happen.
I have only given you a few basic steps to keeping your fish healthy in a small fish tank aquarium. Remember, there are many other factors to consider. When you love your little ecosystem, you will protect it and keep it as healthy as possible. Even a small tank aquarium can work wonders for you, mentally and emotionally.
