if you pullher out of cage as soon as she wets heself she will learn that peeing is god it gets attention even if it is only a bath!dogs are really clever and will soon train you.she is showing signs of separation anxeity.i give my dog a chew or toy in his crate.if you are gonna have to bath the dog then waiting wont help this but get her checked for urinary infection before doing anything.you could part cover her cage with a blanket so she feels secure

Restroom in Crate? Thats your problem.
Keep a crate and don’t pen her in the kitchen or any other room. Only use the crate when you are unable to watch her but make sure the crate is of the proper size. Crates should just be big enough to allow the dog to stand up, stretch and turn around in. Dogs will not relieve themselves in the area they are sleeping unless they absolutely cannot hold it. Also there should not be anything left in the crate that the puppy can chew such as stuffed animals or blankets. If she does happen to have an accident in the crate these will retain moisture and the mess will be harder for you to clean.
When she is inside and out of the crate you can tether her to you, so that you can watch her closely. This also teaches her to be on a lead and at the same time she can be with you. If you don’t want to tether her then when she’s not crated you have to watch her like a hawk, not only in case she relieves herself, but for her own safety. She will chew things she shouldn’t that can be very dangerous. Many dogs have been electrocuted because of chewing through power cords.
To house train her. Take her outside every 20 minutes. Tell her “Outside” in an exuberant and happy voice. Take her to where you want her to go, put the lead on her a tell her “Go Pee” watch her and when she goes praise her profusely. Something like ” Good Girl, Go Pee” and make sure you pet her at the same time. Take her back inside, into the crate, tethered or just watching her. She will have accidents and (You have to catch her in the act) when she does, show her what she did and say in a stern low voice “No potty”. It’s not what you are saying that gets her attention it’s how you say it. Take her outside as above and say ” Go Pee”. She likely won’t because she just went in the house. Stay outside for a few minutes and bring her back in. If train is consistent it should take no longer than 10-14 days. After she starts getting the idea you need to teach her how to get your attention when she needs to go out.

Hmmm…..that is strange. Try not giving her as much water and keep getting her used to going outside for the restroom before you crate her. Also, might want to try a smaller crate until she grows out of it and then switch her to the bigger crate. If dogs are in a smaller crate, they generally will not pee or poop if they can hold it b/c they don’t like for their territory they are laying in to become dirty with pee and poop.
Good Luck.

You have a restroom in the crate?
First, ask yourself how long the dog is spending in the crate and how much attention she is getting.
The crate should never be used for punishment. Therefore if dog does something wrong, sending her to her crate is not the answer . She’ll dislike it.
Give her a Bong filled with treats to keep her busy. But before crating give her her food and drink, wait 20 minutes then a good long walk. If she’s not tired throw a ball for 10 mins. Go back in the house and do what you have to do and when she’s quiet say “go beddy bies” or whatever term you use for the crate. Put a blanket on the top (only) of the crate to make her feel more secure. Some comfy blankets or whatever you use and a few toys and her Bong. When you get home approach the crate without saying anything. Calmly let her out. Take her outside no fussing and say “go pee”. Don’t let her distract you. Just keep saying it. When she does pee say “good pee” and play with her for 10 mins. Then it’s dinner time repeat the whole thing but don’t crate her for the evening. When it’s time for bed let her out do the “go pee” routine again. Bring her in do what you have to do let her calm down and then “beddy byes” but she shouldn’t need the bong she should sleep. Don’t leave her in much after 6:30 am. And repeat all this day after day. She’ll get it. Good luck. I know how awful it is when they poop in their crate – my daughter’s bulldog does it still and she’s over 2.

I think your dog needs more attention. If all you are doing is letting her out of the cage to go to the bathroom or eat she is probably doing this because she is bored and knows you will give her attention more if she has accidents in her cage. If you are home all day long or majority of the day your dog doesn’t need to be in the cage, but mostly with you, playing, walking, laying on the floor watching a movie, ect. Your dog is not a baby anymore but more or less at the toddler age. Any toddler who is bored will get into things or act up or out for attention. Taking her outside to do her business and feeding her even though it is a schedule it isn’t enough for your puppy. She is needing more and she is trying to tell you this. If you can try to add more time in between caging her engaging in fun and games, cuddling, and walking. And when you do put her in her cage put toys, kongs filled with treats or peanut butter, stuffed animals, and a blanket or shirt that has your smell on it.
If you already do do this! Call and make a appointment with your vet. If you can have her urinate on something that you can save her urine (like a plastic garbage bag) so you can take it to the vet when you go and have it tested. She may have a infection in her bladder or urinary tract and so she will have more urges to feel like she has to go to the bathroom more often. She also could just have a weak bladder and you will just have to up the times you take her out to the potty. Animals and humans need to go to the bathroom everytime you have the urge. If you don’t and hold it it can weaken the bladder and cause spoutaneous peeing that you can’t control. But please check with you vet on what he think is the best solution for you puppy. Only they know best!!!

For one thing, a dog normally will not defecate where they sleep. You need to take her out right before you put her in the crate and immediately after you take her back out of the crate.
Do not put food in with her but she does need water. How long are you leaving her in there each time?

Hi Jess,
your best bet would be to check out:

It’s the best dog training resource I’ve come across so far and is suitable for all dogs. I’m very satisfied with the positive results brought by their step by step program.
Hope that helps!
